Three types of rechargeable batteries used for outdoor solar products include, nickel cadmium (NICD,Ni-CD or Ni-CAD), Nickel Metal Hydride(NIMH or NiMH) and Lithium Lon(Li-ion or Li-ion). These three types have different technical features which are not discussed here.

Instead, the explanation here is about the basic characteristics, advantages and disadvantages of the three types mentioned. NiCD batteries, these are one of the first types of batteries used for solar lighting. Though an older one in design, these are not inferior products but something considerable to buy.

Great advise. Another thing to be carefull of is do not replace Ni-CD batteries that are in many solar lights with Ni-MH batteries as they are not suitable in Ni-Cd only chargers.
