I couldn't make it through the 'video' which was a seemingly endless 'aw shucks' approach, that never got to the point. A good video should use movement and photos, not simply bore us with text, read by someone. Booooooring.

I was wondering when we'd get past the sad story of the freezing child, to what the solution was.

In Ca, one can set up their panels if they want, but the bureaucracy prevents activating the panels.

You might have held my interest with some alacrity and getting to the point more quickly. The video as is is painful to wait for relevant info.

Well, I did get a Power4Home 2.0 DVD, so far. Really people, you can learn more by watching You Tube video's, and they're free.
I watched this DVD and was left with more questions then answers. I am sending my questions off to them in hopes of an answer, we'll see!!

BEWARE AND COUNT THE COST! I watched John's video presentation and the first
issue I have with this video and many others is you are instantly pressured into having
to watch the complete thing at one sitting as there are no controls to pause, reverse,
fast forward etc. They are always so... smooth wanting to wrap the presentation around
your emotions and all I want is for them to cut to the chase and provide the facts. Here
are some facts. My 2000 sq. ft. house using electric heating requires by code a
200 amp @ 240 volt service, that is a total of 48000 watts @ 120 volts ac. available.
(that is 48 thousand watts @ 120 volts) This house will use approximately 100kwh or
100,000 watts @ 120 volts per 24 hr's in the winter in Canada, at 10 cents a KWH (hour)
that is $10.00 a day. John's 75 watt 12 volt panel will only produce about a 6 watts at
120 volts AC through a battery/ inverter setup. Lets break it down further, 100,000 watts
divided by 24 hours is 4166 watts per hour. This means I would require 694 of his
panels operating a full/peak capacity to be off the grid and to get a refund like he claims
I would require many more over the 700 panel count. Even at John's reduced production
costs for the panels they still would be $14,000.00. Then you have to consider the price
of batteries and inverters etc. Looking at the big picture solar panels to
produces electrical energy are still very costly. In saying this I agree a person should
have some kind of backup emergency power, just do your due diligence on the overall
costs of these systems. Solar is a more reasonable choice in sunny climates.

After all my research on Ebay and Amazon.com I have come up with a pretty accurate cost for building just 3 100 watt solar panels. This cost does not include all your time to solder these solar cells together. I will attempt to break it down for you in a DIY step by step instruction. You be the judge if you want to spend an additional 50 bucks for Power4Home instructional books. You will need to buy one 4' X 8' sheet of plywood for around $25.00. Cut it into 3 sheets of 30" x 48" Pieces. Okay, so far you've spent $25.00 and about 30 minutes of your time. Now if you're lucky, you can get a good deal on Ebay or Amazon.com for 210 solar cells, solder, flux, and wire for as cheap as $200.00, like I said, IF YOU'RE LUCKY. Now you also need to buy three 8 foot 2" x 2"s for the edges, at around a couple bucks each, $6.00. Then you also need to buy some epoxy, also on Ebay, for roughly $100.00.
So far, here is what you have (3) 30" x 48" pieces of plywood, (3) 8' 2" x 2"' 's, 210 solar cells, and some epoxy, all for close to $350.00.
Now you have to spend days, maybe weeks, to solder these cells into rows of 10 by 7 for each panel. Then carefully place 7 rows of 10 cells on each 30" x 48" piece of plywood. Cut your 2" by 2's to make a frame around your solar cells. Mix your epoxy, carefully or you'll be buying more on Ebay, and pour into each of your three panels to completely cover your soldered solar cells. Now after days or weeks you have three 100 watt solar panels, at a cost of $350.00. Now remember your home probably, at a bare minimum, uses around 1000 watts per month, or 1 KW of power.
In order for you to get any use out of these three 100 watt solar panels you need to buy a charger, cheap one for around $100.00, disconnect panel, for around $50.00. and a 300 watt grid tie inverter for around $150.00.
So Far, you have invested around $650.00 to $700.00, don't forget all the incidental wiring you'll need, and only have one third the power you need to support your home. Oh, I forgot to mention, the system, I have described so far, only works if your power is on. If for any reason you lose power, your solar system will not work, unless you have a battery back up. Hmmmmmm, guess what, more money!!!!
If your power goes out, you will need several batteries and a power inverter to use as a generator system. If you want I will explain all this to you in a future comment, just ask!!

Bruce, It is now November. How are things going? Have you had to ask for a refund yet? If so, have you heard anything back from them?

I too am one of the unfortunate persons who swallowed Mr. Russell's spiel hook, line and sinker! It all sounded so good (what's the old saying. "If it sounds too good to be true - it probably is!"). Anyway, I ordered my system on Aug. 2 and am still waiting for my instruction manuals, guides and bonus material. I finally did receive a DVD, and I find it very difficult to believe that all the written material I was to receive is contained in PDF form on this DVD. How the heck do you read a DVD on a computer? I have two computers, and niether one has the capability for DVDs - only CDs! Of all my friends who have computers, none of them have DVD capability, If it is true that all the printed material I was supposed to get is on the DVD, and if someone can tell me how to read it, this means that I have to print it all out, which can be quite expensive. The Power4Home System sales pitch is extremely misleading, almost to the point of false advertising. I too have made numerous attempts
to reach someone at Power4Home, all to no avail - not a word. The final straw was calling the phone number on the "Contact Us" page, only to be informed by a recorded message that they were too busy to talk and to send them an email, which I already knew would be ignored. Anyway, I'm now requesting a refund (wonder if I'll here anything on that). I can just picture Mr. Russell sitting there rubbing hid hands together and smiling gleefully everytime some sap orders this system, and chuckling "Gotcha, sucker!".

I received the DVD for your power4home which is very impressive. I will need to send it back as my husband said he did not like to do it. So would you let me know if and how I should return your DVD so someone else could use it? Thank you

I have been researching the DIY solar panels for about a year now. I just watched Mr. Russells' commercial video and decided to check out the reviews. OUCH! I would think he would be trying some damage control here but if your not interested enough to send out your product to a paying customer why would you want to answer any of thier questions? I think I'll pass on this one and keep looking around. Sorry Power4Home, but I'll keep my money in my pocket until you guys start treating your customers with a lot more respect.
